“Demon moutain”

Mt.Oe, located between Amanohashidate, a sacred place for over 2,000 years, and Kyoto, the old capital has been feared as a mountain inhabited by demons.

About 1000 years ago, samurai defeated demons and created this road. The legend behind this is the most famous damon slayer’s story in Japan, “Shuten-doji.”

Even today, that mysterious atmosphere remains, and there are cedar trees that only grow in this place.

Due to nature conservation reasons, some of this trails are only accessible on guided tours.

In some sections, stone pavement from over 300 years ago remains intact. You can ride a mountain bike, but it’s also nice to walk slowly while pushing your bike.

The view of Amanohashidate from here is breathtaking, and many writers have read poetry from here since ancient times.

Now that the demons are gone, the area has become a good playground for local mountain bikers.

It also passes through an old settlement.

You can also enjoy beautiful rivers and waterfalls.

Even today, demons are popular among local people.

Mt.Oe is a mountain of magnetic iron ore that has given rise to a unique vegetation, and was once an important mining site, where you can explore a little further into the old mining site.

Mt. Oe is famous for its autumn leaves, and you can enjoy the beautiful nature of each season, from the bright yellow of autumn to the deep green of summer and the flowers of spring.

Before entering the trail, a professional instructor will give a lecture at the site of a closed ski resort. Even beginners can feel at ease.

You’ll be using a full-fledged electric mountain bike, so you can focus on the pleasure.
