Spring in Kyoto is the best time of year for cycling. Beautiful flowers bloom everywhere you ride, and the temperature is comfortable.
Cherry blossoms bloom from late March to early April. The further north you go, the later the cherry blossoms bloom, so if you take a long cycling trip north from Kyoto to Tango, you can see a variety of cherry blossoms.
Be careful as June brings a lot of rain.
In summer, we recommend cycling combined with swimming at the Tango Peninsula, known as “Japan’s most beautiful coastline.” Highland cycling routes like the Nakasendo are also great options.
Kyoto city gets hot, so we recommend sunset tours at dusk. The Kitayama area, including Kibune, is also cool and pleasant.
Autumn in Kyoto is long. Recently, warm days continue until early December, and autumn leaves are also appearing later. Arashiyama is particularly a wonderful cycling area.
Nara also has good weather, but be careful as the northern Sea of Japan coast often has bad weather.
Winter in Kyoto has temperatures of 5-10 degrees Celsius, which is a bit cold. It rarely snows.
Since Kyoto is the center of religious events throughout Japan, various events are held at countless temples and shrines in the city during the New Year period. Additionally, with fewer tourists, you can comfortably explore the usually crowded Gion and Higashiyama areas.
